How it works

When you choose a video, it is opened directly from your device's storage. Your browser's built-in video encoder (WebCodecs, the same hardware encoder video apps use) re-encodes it right there, and the smaller MP4 is handed back to you to save. The page needs no server to do this, which is why it is fast, private and works offline.

Lossless keeps the original resolution and frame rate and only removes data the eye can't see; phone videos often shrink by half or more. Exact size fits the video under a limit such as Discord's 10 MB, email's 25 MB or WhatsApp's 16 MB, choosing the sharpest resolution for that size.

Made for Discord, WhatsApp, email and iPhone videos

Discord

Discord's free upload limit is 10 MB. Pick the Discord (10 MB) preset and the video is fitted just under the limit at the sharpest resolution that size allows, so you can share clips without Nitro.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp squeezes large videos on its own and the result often looks blurry. Shrink the video here first with the WhatsApp preset or Lossless mode, so you decide the quality instead of the app.

Email

Gmail attachments are limited to 25 MB. The Email (25 MB) preset makes a video fit in a single email instead of a cloud link.

iPhone videos (MOV to MP4)

iPhones record large MOV files. Instant Compress opens them directly and saves a smaller MP4 that plays on Windows, Android, Discord and the web, so it doubles as an iPhone MOV to MP4 converter.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. Instant Compress never uploads your video. The file is read and compressed inside your browser on your own phone or computer, and the result is saved straight back to your device. No server ever receives it.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After your first visit the whole app is stored in your browser, so you can open it and compress videos without an internet connection. You can also install it to your home screen or desktop like an app.

Why is it faster than other video compressors?

Most online compressors make you upload the whole video, wait in a queue, then download the result. Here there is no upload or download: compression starts immediately using your device's built-in video encoder (WebCodecs), often at several times real-time speed.

What does Lossless mode do?

Lossless mode keeps the original resolution and frame rate and removes only data the eye can't see. Phone videos are recorded with far more data than needed, so they often shrink by half or more with no visible difference. If a video is already efficiently compressed, the app tells you instead of lowering the quality.

How do I make a video small enough for Discord, email or WhatsApp?

Pick the Discord (10 MB), Email (25 MB) or WhatsApp (16 MB) preset, or type any size. The app picks the best resolution and bitrate for that size and shows the expected quality before you start.

Which formats and sizes are supported?

MP4 and MOV (including iPhone videos) up to 500 MB. The result is an MP4 (H.264 + AAC) that plays everywhere.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no account, no watermark and no sign-up.

How do I compress a video for Discord without Nitro?

Open Instant Compress, choose your video and pick the Discord (10 MB) preset. The video is compressed on your device to just under Discord's 10 MB free upload limit, with no upload and no account.

How do I convert an iPhone MOV video to MP4?

Choose the MOV file from your iPhone or computer and use Lossless mode to keep the quality, or a size preset to make it smaller. The result is saved as an MP4 that plays everywhere.
